Neotame

Powerful Sweetness Without the Calories

Neotame is a sugar alternative that delivers intense sweetness without the calories. Its exceptional sweetening power helps recreate the taste profile of sugar across a wide range of applications while enabling significant reductions in sugar content. Benefits of Neotame

Neotame is sweeter than any other marketed no-calorie sweeteners and is approximately 30-40 times sweeter than aspartame, or 7,000-13,000 times sweeter than sugar. Neotame can deliver comparable sweetness to sucrose in various applications.

Neotame is quickly metabolized and fully eliminated by the body via normal biological processes.

Neotame has a variety of applicability and uses in foods and beverages, including chewing gum, carbonated soft drinks, refrigerated and non-refrigerated ready-to-drink beverages, tabletop sweeteners, frozen desserts and novelties, jams, puddings and fillings, baked goods, and candies. It can also be used in both cooking and baking applications.

Facts About Neotame

Origin

Neotame was developed as a derivative of aspartame, modifying the molecule to enhance its stability. The modifications were intended to make the sweetener more resistant to heat, allowing it to be used in a broader range of food processing applications.

Safety

Extensive research has been conducted on neotame to establish its safety as a sweetening ingredient. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed over 100 scientific studies before approving neotame.

Regulatory Status

The FDA approved the use of neotame as a general purpose sweetener in July 2002. Neotame also is approved for use in Australia and New Zealand.

The FDA has established an Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) of 0.30 mg/kg of body ‎weight. An ADI represents the daily intake limit whereby a substance can be ‎consumed each day with no safety concern.
