Four Simple Ways to a Healthier Lifestyle

Living healthy feels like a constant topic of conversation. People are always interested in the latest trend to lead to a healthier way of living, but sometimes all you need to start is the basics. Behavioral changes in diet and physical activity can often be hard but with these four basic and simple tips, you too will be able to take the leap into a healthier lifestyle!

1. Hydrate. We can always be drinking more water! Being adequately hydrated affects many areas of the body. Your body needs water to function properly. Being hydrated helps your body run from the inside out – from aiding in digestion to giving your skin a healthy glow – water is the key to making these things happen. It’s recommended to drink 2 liters of per day to prevent dehydration. Another, more delicious, way to stay hydrated is drinking flavored waters sweetened with allulose. You’ll get the water your body needs and the taste you enjoy while limiting your calories.

2.  1452037146_16Stretch. Many of us were active as kids playing sports and, if you remember, stretching was always a must! This should be a concept we continue as adults. Set aside just 10-15 minutes every morning to stretch out your body to keep you feeling limber and agile. This will also help prevent the aches and pains that increase with age. Flexibility decreases with age and this loss can raise chances of injuries. Even if you’re no longer playing sports, making stretching a part of your daily routine will make you feel better and improve your quality of life. Foam rollers are great tools to aid in stretching and relieving an achy muscle. They are inexpensive, and can be found at most sporting goods stores.

Technology has certainly made our lives easier, but it has also made most of us more sedentary. Starting a new work out regiment can seem daunting, so start slow. Purchase a pedometer and challenge yourself to getting in 10,000 steps per day. Also, add 30 minutes of moderate cardio (fast walk, elliptical, jogging) 3 times a . Even small things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator can make a big difference over time.

4. Sleep. Many people slack on sleep! This is detrimental to your overall health and wellbeing. Sleep studies suggest that adults get 7-8 hours per day of sleep.. Sleep can improve one’s mental health, physical health and quality of life.  Being Active (see above) also aids in you being able to get a better night sleep.
