So without further ado, Beth has kindly given us an introductory post:
Hi and thanks for visiting! I’m excited to embark upon this new blog which will touch on a little bit of everything – from nutrition to sewing and everything in between – it will be about sharing a little of life. Just for background purposes, I’m a mom to two – a just turned 5-year-old girl who started kindergarten and a six month old boy. In addition to my great my husband, they are the light of my lives and I love being a mom. It’s absolutely the hardest thing I have ever done, but also the most rewarding, joyful, fun and exciting thing, too.
By training, I am a dietitian. But my passion is anything creative so I guess that is how I ended up here (this is not a very traditional job for a dietitian). I have been working with the Calorie Control Council for almost 12 years (gulp – how did I get this old? My husband assures me a mini van is in my future!!) One of the best things is that I really believe in what I do. The information provided is always based on the science and I truly believe that low-calorie sweeteners and the products that contain them can be helpful in weight control. I’m a real believer in moderation and trying to balance calories. And, just like balancing my checkbook, some days I do better than others.
Over my past 12 years, I have found food to be a very passionate discussion and like politics, many people have strong convictions when it comes to what they believe about diet and nutrition – which certainly makes life interesting. Once my children were born, I decided to work part time. So, I’m kind of a hybrid mom – doing the SAHM (stay at home mom) thing and working. It’s always a crazy juggle, but I don’t think I would have it any other way.
One other thing you will find about me is that I am obsessed with home decorating and DIY projects. I never met aBetter Homes and Gardens magazine I didn’t like. And, I love the challenge of getting “the look” for less! (I am the type that loves to turn trash to treasure. Unfortunately for my husband I am constantly pulling other people’s “trash” out of the alleyway.) I recently learned to sew, so that is quite helpful. Two of my favorite sites include etsy.com and pinterest.com. Pinterest.com is a recent discovery for me and I can easily get sucked in…… Just thinking about it makes me dreamy.
If I were to pick a perfect day (besides hanging out with my family or having a special date night with my hubby), I would spend the day in a fabric store… pulling together different color combinations and imagining what I could create with all those fabrics.
Again, thanks for visiting and I hope you will stop back often or leave me a note about your thoughts. Tune in next week for my very first post….. “Kindergarten: Life Lessons and a Mom’s Struggle to Let Go (a little).”
